Put a message in a bottle with the Research Time Capsule! We are currently accepting submissions for the first ever St. Michael's Hospital Research Time Capsule. We’re looking for records
Put a message in a bottle with the Research Time Capsule! We are currently accepting submissions for the first ever St. Michael’s Hospital Research Time Capsule. We’re looking for records that representing the work carried out at St. Michael’s and particularly for records, photos and items related to significant events.
This is an opportunity for our research experts to determine the significant scientific discoveries St. Michael’s has been a part of and ensure these accomplishments are recognized for their historical impact in the years to come.
Research staff and students can drop off your items of interest, including significant photos, at the Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute (209 Victoria St.– 5th Floor) by Sept. 30, 2017. For more information, please contact Elizabeth Huggins (HugginsEl@smh.ca).
The Research Time capsule will be unveiled in November at Research Month’s History of Research at St. Michael’s lecture. The time capsule will be stored in the St. Michael’s Hospital Archives for 25 years.
Who can make a submission to the Research Archive?
All researchers, staff and students may make a submission.
Why are we doing this?
This year is the 125th anniversary of St. Michael’s Hospital. In preparing for this historical milestone, we noted a lack of recent historical documents that signify the contributions St. Michael’s and its researchers have made to the health of Canadians. We recognized that as a research institute, we needed to create an opportunity for our experts to determine the significant research discoveries and ensure they are recognized for their historical impact.
How long will the items be in the time capsule?
The items will be kept for 25 years. The time capsule will be opened on the 150th anniversary of St. Michael’s Hospital.
What items do we need to submit?
You may submit any significant photos or any small items of interest. All items will be reviewed by the Research St. Michael’s 125th committee and the committee will determine whether the record has a place in the capsule.
And what happens if the items aren’t accepted for the time capsule?
The item will be returned to you.
How and where can you make a submission?
All items can be submitted to Elizabeth Huggins (HugginsEl@smh.ca) at the Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute ( 209 Victoria St, 5th Floor, RM 511, 416-864-6060 x77689).
Is there a deadline to make a submission?
Yes. The last day to make a submission is Sept. 30, 2017.
Who do I contact if I have questions?
Please contact Elizabeth Huggins if you have any questions.
