Biography

Madeleine Ritts is the Team Lead of FOCUS—a community mental health and addictions team at St. Michael’s Hospital. Her research interests include poverty, mental health, housing, public finance, and the social determinants of health. Recently, she has become interested in engaging in public debates around these issues and her articles have been published in Science & Society; The Toronto Star; Healthy Debate; and NOW Magazine. She has worked and organized in Toronto for over five years with Street Health, Neighbourhood Legal Services, the Ontario Coalition Against Poverty, Healthcare Providers Against Poverty, and “Reclaim the Streets”. Her current research examines inequalities in the provision of mental health and addictions outreach services on the basis of race, age, and gender.
