Chris Allen is a Clinical Research Specialist in the Observational Epidemiology Unit at the Applied Health Research Centre. He is interested in frameworks that facilitate equity, inclusion and diversity for both research staff and research participants. He aims to ensure that research decision-making incorporates voices from disadvantaged and vulnerable communities.

Galo F. Ginocchio is a clinical research professional at St. Michael’s Hospital, a graduate student at University of Toronto’s Dalla Lana School of Public Health, and a health equity activist. While his research interests include cognitive neuroscience, sex & gender differences, and harm reduction, he is also passionate about economic justice, LGBTQ+ health, and creating a healthcare system that works for everyone.

Mahfam has a keen interest in EDI and higher education policy development and administration. Her work is focused on understanding the barriers that scholars, trainees and research administrators from underrepresented groups face in the Canadian post-secondary sector and mobilizing knowledge, perspectives and experiences to empower them to achieve their full potential.

Suvetha Krishnapillai (Genomics Health Services Research Group)

Suvetha Krishnapillai is a Master of Science candidate at the Institute for Health Policy, Management and Evaluation of the University of Toronto focusing on health technology assessment in genomics health services. She is interested in equity work surrounding research practices and digital health technology.

Post-Doctoral Research Fellow, Member of the REDI Task Force

Dr. Cilia Mejia-Lancheros is a mixed ethno-racial health scientist born and trained outside Canada, with lived experiences of socio-economic inequalities, discrimination and exclusion. Cilia brings the barriers that she has faced as a woman, professional, and scientist to the REDI Task Force to inform improvements in diversity, inclusion and equity at individual and structural level in our research institute and beyond. She thinks all population groups and individuals should receive support and resources, and their rights, voices and capabilities enhanced and empowered so that they can thrive and actively contribute to build up more equitable, healthy and sustainable society.

Dr. Cheryl Pritlove is an Investigator at the Applied Health Research Centre, St. Michael’s Hospital. As a feminist political economist and health equity researcher, she takes a critical social scientific view of the vast, diverse, and intersecting factors that contribute to inequities in academic medicine and in the delivery of healthcare. She is committed to locating multi-level solutions to promote greater equity, diversity and inclusion in these contexts and beyond.

Contributing to society has always been part of Jose’s passion, which began with teaching, continued into healthcare delivery, and now focuses on improving surgical safety. As a member of the REDI Task Force, he aims to put his experiences, both professional and personal, to the service of a greater goal.

Jordan Sam is a Research Coordinator in the Genomics Health Services and Policy Research at the Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute. His interests lie in clinical genomics research to guide policy and best practices, as well as promoting equity, inclusivity, and diversity in research.

Samar Saneinejad is the Senior Director of Strategy & Commercialization at Unity Health Toronto. She is an Iranian-Canadian, a life-long learner and a firm believer that with diversity comes tremendous strength; she is passionate about advancing equity and inclusivity across all areas of our research institute. She is Co-Chair of the REDI Task Force and a member of the Unity Health Toronto Council on Anti-Racism, Equity and Social Accountability (CARESA) and the Toronto Academic Health Sciences Network (TAHSN) EDI Working Group.

Liane Steiner is a research assistant in MAP Centre for Urban Health Solutions at St. Michael’s Hospital. She holds a Master of Health Studies degree and helps conduct research related to health equity and the social determinants of health.

As someone who has experienced the inequities of the healthcare system firsthand, Mehwesh has always strived to help others gain more equitable access to healthcare, jobs and research opportunities. Being a member of the REDI Task Force will enable her to use her own experiences and privilege to help her colleagues, other staff members, physicians and learners at St. Michael’s Hospital.

Dr. Andrea Tricco is a Scientist and Director of the Knowledge Synthesis Team in the Knowledge Translation Program of the Li Ka Shing Knowledge Institute, St. Michael’s Hospital. She is an Associate Professor at the University of Toronto in the Dalla Lana School of Public Health & Institute of Health Policy, Management, and Evaluation and Tier 2 Canada Research Chair in Knowledge Synthesis.

Madison is the Vice Chair of the St. Michael’s Hospital Research Student Association (SRSA), previously serving as the Director of Equity. One of her main goals within SRSA is to bring EDI training, education, and awareness to graduate students that relates not only to research but also to their experiences inside and outside of academia.
