This session will include foundational education on the basic concepts of EDI, and how systems of oppression operate in academia. We will work through principles and best practices of equity and inclusion, and how these can be applied throughout the research process.

Objectives
- Foundational understanding of equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) and definitions
- The importance of EDI to research excellence
- Discussion of the challenges and barriers underrepresented groups face in academia
- Strategies for implementing equity and inclusion best practices that encourage and support diversity.

- Understanding and awareness of EDI in academia
- Strategic approaches to EDI best practices
- Responding to EDI requirements in research proposals and grant funding applications
