I am entering the second year of my master’s program with the Institute of Medical Science. My research uses zebrafish to investigate the molecular mechanisms of opioid drugs, to prevent lethal respiratory depression. Last year, I was a Director of Student Life and am excited to be part of SRSA’s executive team again!
I am entering my fifth and final year of my PhD at the Institute of Medical Science. For my thesis I work with the Orthopaedic research team to conduct a multi-centre prospective cohort study. I am currently the vice-chair for SRSA, which is a position I also held last year. The year prior I was one of two academic directors.
I am entering the second year of a Master’s Program in the Department of Physiology, researching the impact of diabetic drugs in a Heart Failure setting. As previous academic director, I am looking forward to serve with the executive team once again!
Michelle is a PhD candidate in the Institute of Medical Science. Her research explores how blood flow patterns affect gene-protein interactions. She is avidly involved in mentorship and science outreach, both at the University of Toronto, St Michael’s Hospital and in the community. Through her extensive experience on the St. Michael’s Hospital Research Student Association (SRSA), first as treasurer, then Vice-Chair and now Senior Advisor for the second year in a row, Michelle continues to be involved in promoting advocacy, equity, and the student perspective on many Hospital Research Committees. Michelle aims to guide, mentor and support SRSA and the St. Michael’s Hospital graduate student population at large.
My name is Victoria Ki and I am in my first year of my Master’s program in the department of LMP. My research will focus on determining the role of acid ceramidase in renal fibrosis. I am thrilled to work with SRSA as a Communications Director!
I am in the first year of my Master’s program at the Institute of Medical Science. I work at the Injury Prevention Research Office in the Neurosurgery department at SMH. The research I am working on covers clinical themes including traumatic brain injury, injury prevention, polysubstance abuse, and artificial intelligence. I am looking forward to an amazing year with SRSA!
I am Saisujani Rasiah, a first year MSc candidate at the Institute of Medical Science. With the Department of Pediatrics, my research uses a RCT design to investigate the impact school based health clinics have on children attending inner city schools in Ontario. My previous research at SMH was focused on neonatal hyperbilirubinemia and its treatments. I am excited to be serving as a SRSA executive member this year!
Hello! I am a first year PhD student in the Institute of Medical Science. My research focuses on the application of quantitative (advanced) magnetic resonance imaging techniques to study multiple sclerosis. I am very excited to work as the Co-Director of Community Outreach. I strive to continue contributing to scientific advancement and positive change in our community!
Hi everyone, my name is Kevin and I am entering the first year of my Master’s program in the Department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology. My research is focused on investigating the mechanism of anti-red blood cell antibodies in treating immune thrombocytopenia. I will be one of the Directors of Student Life for SRSA and I hope to bring new and exciting social events to our student body this year!
I am starting the first year of my master’s program with the department of Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology. My research focuses on understanding the mechanism of antibodies in the treatment of autoimmune diseases such an immune thrombocytopenia (ITP). This is my first year on SRSA and I am excited to be a part of the team!
I’m entering the third year of my PhD program at the Institute of Medical Science. My research examines how stigma impacts the health and wellbeing of people living with HIV. I’m excited to serve SRSA this year as Academic Director!
I am pursuing a PhD with Dr. Dos Santos in the Department of Physiology, at the University of Toronto. My area of study involves investigating the host response to influenza-induced Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome. Hello all! I am in the second year of my MSc in the department of Nutritional Sciences. My research focuses on nutrition during infancy and feeding behaviours and health outcomes later in childhood. I am returning for my second year as a site representative and look forward to connecting with you through some awesome events!
I am entering the second year of my master’s program with the Institute of Medical Science. My research investigates interventions and programs that address health inequities among sexual minorities in primary care. My goal during my time in SRSA is to ensure student equity and representation at St. Michael’s Hospital.
I am a second-year Ph.D. student with the Institute of Biomaterials and Biomedical Engineering (University of Toronto) and a current clinical engineering trainee with the International Centre for Surgical Safety (St. Michael’s Hospital). My research interest is in the field of surgical safety and AI. I continue to work with major teaching hospitals in Toronto and contribute to R&D projects, some of which have already found their way to implementation. I am very excited to join SRSA as a site representative and am really looking forward to meeting members of this fantastic student-led research community.
